5 Copilot in Excel Tips to Try Today | Microsoft 365
Spend less time formatting spreadsheets and more time acting on what your data shows. The video, "5 Copilot in Excel Tips to Try Today," shows how Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel formats data into structured tables, creates formulas, generates charts, updates datasets without starting over, and highlights the insights that matter. Watch the video for five tips that help you analyze data faster.
How can Copilot in Excel help me clean and structure my data?
Copilot in Excel helps you turn raw, messy data into structured tables so you can work with it more easily.
Using natural language prompts, you can ask Copilot to:
- Format a range as a structured table
- Standardize columns (for example, dates or currency)
- Organize and label data so it’s easier to filter and sort
The goal is to help you go from an unstructured sheet to a clean dataset in a few steps, so you can focus on analysis instead of manual cleanup.
Can Copilot build formulas and charts for my analysis?
Copilot in Excel lets you describe what you want to calculate or visualize in plain English, and then it builds the formulas and charts for you.
For example, you can ask Copilot to:
- Create formulas to analyze data, such as calculating total profit from revenue and cost
- Instantly generate charts to visualize trends, comparisons, or distributions
This helps you reimagine how you work with Excel: instead of remembering exact functions or chart settings, you focus on the business question, and Copilot handles the technical steps.
What happens when my data changes—do I need to start over?
Copilot in Excel is designed to work with evolving datasets, so you don’t have to start from scratch when your data changes.
You can:
- Update your data (add new rows, adjust values, or import a new version) and keep using the same sheet
- Ask Copilot to refresh formulas and charts so they reflect the latest data
- Use Copilot to extract key insights and highlight what actually matters, even as the numbers change
This helps you move from raw data to meaningful insights in a repeatable way, especially when you’re working with regularly updated reports or dashboards.
